
CHS grad earns Beaverbrook Scholarship

A 2008 Canterbury graduate is one of eight UNB students awarded a Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship for study in the 2008-09 academic year.
Cornelia Bedard, who is enrolled UNB's science program at the Fredericton campus, received $6,130 over four years. She is the daughter of Sylvain and Jane Bedard.
Megan Fulton on McAdam is another York County grad to earn a Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship. The Harvey High School 2008 grad will also receive $6,130 over four years. The daughter of Vance Fulton and Brenda Thorne is currently enrolled in the bachelor of philosophy program on the university's Fredericton campus.
Other recipients are Scott Bell of South Tetagouche, who received $7,130 over four years to study chemical engineering; Nicole Chaisson of Saint John, who received $6,131 over four years to study science at the UNB Saint John; Kristen Fulton of Minto, who received $6,130 over four years to study philosophy at the university's Fredericton campus; Michael Lawson, of Cails Mills, who received $6,130 over four years to study science at the university's Fredericton campus; Rebecca McBriarty of Saint John, N.B., who received $6,130 over four years to study science at UNB Fredericton campus; and Jordan Schriver of Moncton, who received $6,130 over four years to take arts at the university's Fredericton campus.
Lord Beaverbrook established the scholarships in 1920 to provide assistance and opportunity for some of the province's best students.
Building on the great traditions Lord Beaverbrook established, UNB assumed responsibility for funding the Lord Beaverbrook entrance scholarships and the Lord Beaverbrook scholarships in law after his death in 1964.
Since 1920, more than 800 of the province's best high school students have benefitted from the Beaverbrook entrance scholarships.
The university and its donors provide financial support to students through the granting of scholarships.
