Working hard to deliver home by Christmas

A5

The house on Hawkins Road in Centreville is rapidly taking shape, but we still have a lot of work to do if we hope to get the family in by Christmas. The siding is nearly on, and this along with the trim on the roof will complete the outside work on the house itself.

There is still a need for site work on completing the driveway and on connecting to the well and sewer system. On the inside, the wiring and plumbing are done, minus the fixtures. The Gyprock is 95 per cent complete. We are hoping to crack fill and paint, before putting in the trim, interior doors and flooring.

This will be followed by the cabinets and the plumbing and electrical fixtures.

This is a lot to accomplish in a month but we have been fortunate to have some very dedicated volunteers who have worked away at the project during the week. Every Saturday the site is buzzing with volunteers working at the house and local churches providing the meals. It is a great group of people to work with, and the work is, as one volunteer put it "good for the soul."

Working alongside of the Demerchant-Gallant family, you can see their excitement as their house takes shape around them. It will be a welcome change from their current one-bedroom apartment. With Kaitlin's health issues they have been down a long hard road that no child or parent should have to endure, yet their outlook remains positive.

Kaitlin has some more health hurdles to conquer and the family has to travel to Bethesda, Maryland this week. The outpouring of support in the building of this house has been a bright light for them in a long and difficult struggle.

To be able to get them into this house by Christmas would be an incredible gift for a deserving family. Furthermore, can you think of anything more in keeping with the Christmas Spirit?

To make this happen we need volunteers, and we need money. If you want to help with this, either by volunteering in some fashion, or donating money, please contact the following people:
