Shedding light in the longest night

On Sunday, Dec. 21, the Canterbury Richmond Pastoral charge of the United Church of Canada will host a "longest night" service at Trinity United Church in Debec.

The service will begin at 6 p.m.

This is the darkest night of the year; and while the dark can be soft and gentle, it sometimes represents sadness and fear.

With that in mind, explained Rev. Bev Blazier, this service will balance the darkness with light.

There will be a torchlight parade and carol singing through the village to the church, and a short worship service, at which time people will be given the opportunity to light a candle in memory of loved ones or as a prayer candle for someone. There will be refreshments to follow, including hot chocolate and cookies.

There will also be a bonfire if weather permits.

Everyone is welcome.
