Millville's junior ambassador a busy girl
Published Tuesday December 2nd, 2008

In September of this year, Millville held a contest to elect Ambassadors and other budding leaders among the youth of the area. Twelve-year-old Katie Connor was chosen as Junior Ambassador for the Millville area. She is the oldest of three daughters of Kim and Dennis Connor, residents of Howland Ridge Road.
When asked why she participated in the contest, Katie replied that as a Christian, she considers herself to be kind, friendly and a good example for youth.
Katie is a busy young lady, participating in a puppet troupe from her church – Master's Hands – and attending youth group.
For her talent during the competition, she decided that instead of playing the piano, which is what people would have expected her to do, she would write a poem about her village.
The enthusiastic, articulate Grade 6 student has a vision for the youth of this community. She would like to see programs for kids her age, to keep them involved and having fun.
She has heard of the after-school program for the younger children and thinks that maybe something like that, geared toward her age group, would go over well in Millville.
While admittedly a bit nervous for her first media interview, Katie was happy to share a couple of her life goals, noting she is working on a specific plan.
For the first part of her career, Katie plans to be a lifeguard at camps and indoor pools. For the second part, "something more professional."
Millville, My Home
By Katie Connor
Millville is the place that I call home,
The people are the reason I say so.
The elementary staff and students
They can make your day so much brighter.
The volunteers at the fire department
Let's just say they don't like kids with lighters.
Many Block Parents live in Millville too
While walking, they'll sometimes wave to you.
Estey's Store, what a place to go
The cutest little store I could ever know.
Beverly Forbes, the mayor of this place
How does he have enough time and space?
Legion Branch 59, where bingo is held
Sometimes a place where scrumptious food is smelled.
The Post Office's where you'd get your mail
They send letters and smiles that never fail.
And now my poem is to the end
I hoped you like hearing about my friends.
