Aiming for a ‘special Christmas Blessing'

For over a year, it has been my privilege to report on the progress of Habitat for Humanity – Carleton County Project and to have kept you, our supporters, aware of the various aspects of Habitat's work in the local area.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Bugle-Observer for providing us with this forum to promote and inform as we undertook the formation of our Chapter, began fundraising and completed the Davenport home in Woodstock. The support of the local media has been crucial to developing an awareness of Habitat's important mission. The opportunity to regularly report on our activities has, in part, been a major factor contributing to our financial success and to providing additional affordable housing for Carleton County residents.

I have been amazed to hear from so many readers who kindly offered encouragement and comment during the past year. Several were truly excited and moved by these updates and eagerly followed our progress throughout the winter. It was also heartwarming to see so many interested friends, neighbours and supporters attend the official "Key Passing Ceremony" at the Davenport home on July 1, 2008.

With excavation work for the second Habitat home scheduled to begin shortly, James Wright, Bristol Elementary School principal and RCMP District Commander Staff-Sgt.Mitch MacMilllan will assume responsibility for this column after the Labour Day weekend. James and Mitch will continue to provide you with detailed reports as Habitat begins construction of the DeMerchant/Gallant home on Hawkins Road in Centreville.

As local area residents, James and Mitch will be able to provide current, up-to-date information on this new, ambitious project. It will be much easier for them to visit the site and to more effectively communicate with Pam Brennan and the members of her team. James can be reached by e-mail at wrightjm@nbed.nb.ca, while Mitch is available at mitch.macmillan@rcmp-grc.ca.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity – Carleton County Project may I request your continued prayers in support of Habitat's work and, in particular, for the members our Northern Carleton Committee as they undertake this new challenge. With God's help, we hope to have the new DeMerchant/Gallant family home ready for occupancy in time to receive a special Christmas Blessing during the holiday season. May God bless you all.

If you wish to become involved with the construction of this home, please contact Pam Brennan at Brennan Contractors & Supplies Ltd., 9079 Main St., Bristol, N.B., E7L 2A5.
