Dear Editor,

Hi folks, I was reading in the Bugle-Observer about Old Home Week needing some new ideas.

1. Bring back the tug of war, only make it a competition between all the towns and cities in N.B. You would have to get a major sponsor and have a good size prize.

2. Have an antique farm equipment show and SALE. If this was advertised right it could be a real winner.

3. Make the parade the biggest in Atlantic Canada with a big sponsor. Get the boaters involved and promote the beautiful marina.

4. Bring back the milking contest. Now, have it between all area fire and police departments – Could be a winner.

5. Some fairs in Ontario are now having horse shoe contests. Not much expense here. The older farmers love this one.

6. Try the old bean bag throw contest for the kids. It works here in Ontario. The kids love it.

7. Try the old fish pond for the kids. Get the kids involved.

Years ago, there used to be a .22-rifle shoot at most small fairs. I do not know what would be involved to get this done. Safety would have to be foremost. If you could get it going I'll bet it would be a winner again with all the hunters in the area.

Hope these suggestions may help. I'll keep looking for some more as the fair season is just beginning here.

Good luck.

Ken Maynard,
