Sad tale of two ministers

How fitting it was to see Energy Minister Jack Kier and Social Development Minister Mary Schryer on stage together to announce the Liberal Governments new heating subsidy program.
On one hand we have a minister who doesn't seem to care if our most needy citizens go without suitable housing while plenty of heated units are empty.
Whether she is incompetent, or someone in her department, is makes little difference to me. She is ultimately responsible for the file, and as such, should resign!
Such failures in judgment shouldn't be tolerated by taxpayers who forfeit millions to this minister to run her department with some measure of success.
On the other hand we have a minister who allows slow paying customers to freeze to death while under his watch. This is after he announced in the legislature that he wouldn't shut your power off if you couldn't pay!
What a team; Mary Schryer can't find you a home, and if she does, Jack Keir will probably shut your power off.
Isn't it comforting to know that government is working so diligently to improve the lives of ordinary citizens and our tax dollars aren't going to waste.
But I find little comfort in being lectured by some beaurocrat who earns six figures on how best to spend my money.
So here we have the tale of two ministers introducing a program that's too little, too late and that many simply won't qualify for. If society is truly judged on how it treats its poorest members, then these two ministers will be remembered for their complete and total lack of moral conviction.
Be assured of only two things this coming winter – Mary Schryer won't go without housing and Jack Keir won't freeze to death! Gerry Elliott,
