Slammers back at home Friday
The Woodstock Slammers of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League will be back at home tonight (Friday, Nov. 23) in a 7:30 p.m. start against the Dieppe Gagnon Commandos, set for the Carleton Civic Centre.
The Slammers skated last night (Thursday, Nov. 20) in a road game versus the Restigouche Tigers in Campbellton, but results were not available at press time.
Woodstock will also play the Halifax Lions on the road on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
Hartland tied for first in ice play
The Hartland High Huskies remain in a four-way tie for first place in the Western Conference AA Boys Hockey League standings with École Sainte-Anne, École Marie-Gaétane, and Southern Victoria High School at 2-1-0.
Hartland upped its season record to one game over the .500 mark on Nov. 16 with a convincing 9-0 road win over John Caldwell High School of Grand Falls. Jonathan Cheney, Jared Clark, and Shane Walton led the charge with two apiece. J-M Bertin, Richard Stockford, Caleb McQuade each added a goal, with three helpers to Lucas McSheffery.
The Huskies played at the annual St. Stephen invitational on the weekend, but results were not available at press time.
Hartland will be back at home at the Dog Pound in a 7 p.m. start on Monday, Nov. 24 when they take on SVHS at the Hartland Community Arena. They have a return match versus SVHS on Friday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at the River Valley rink.
Lady Thunder go 1-2 at Sackville ice finals
The Woodstock High School AAA Xplornet Lady Thunder came home with a 1-2 record from the annual Sackville ladies hockey tournament, which wrapped up on the Nov. 15 weekend. The local side dropped Miramichi Valley 4-0, but lost 5-3 to Riverview and 4-1 to Clement Cormier. Against MVHS, Alyssa McLean had four goals, with one goal and a helper to Sierra Paul. Tory Kuhn and Tasha Dickinson each had helpers. Against RHS, McLean had a hat trick, with assists to Dickinson and Paul. McLean also had WHS' lone marker against CC.
WHS will be back in action Sunday at home in exhibition play against Carleton North at the Carleton Civic Centre.
Nackawic to play two SHL games
The Nackawic Senior Hawks will welcome the Fredericton Hilltop Budlights on Friday, Nov. 21 at the Nackawic Arena in Southern Hockey League play.
The Senior Hawks (1-3-0) will also be on the road Sunday in a 7 p.m. contest against the Saint John Blackhawks, set for the Lord Beaverbrook.
Woodstock teams to b-ball events
Squads from Woodstock High School will hit the court this weekend for basketball tournaments in the Fredericton area.
The WHS varsity boys and varsity girls squads will competed at the annual Leo Hayes High School Invitational, while the WHS j.v. girls will hit the court at the Fredericton High School finals. The WHS Quiznos Thunder j.v. boys squad will be at the Oromocto tournament on Nov. 29 and 30.
WV AAA bantams to play two
The Western Valley Panthers of the N.B. AAA Bantam Hockey League will hit the ice for two games this weekend.
On Saturday, Nov. 22 they take on the Acadian Peninsula in a 1 p.m. road start in Tracadie-Sheila, while on Sunday, Nov. 23 they are in Petit Rocher for an 11:45 a.m. start against Chaleur.
NBIAA swim provincials Dec. 10
The 2008 NBIAA provincial swim meet will be hosted by Miramichi Valley High School on Dec. 10.
Numerous categories will be contested at the day-long event.
Correction
Due to a typesetting error, information which appeared in the Nov. 14 edition of the Bugle-Observer on the Carleton North High School Northern Carleton Pharmacy Stars' basketball team concerning its recent tournament win in Bathurst were not correct.
The local side defeated Sugarloaf High School of Campbellton 75-49 in the event's gold medal game. Score at the half was 40-23 CNHS.
The Stars advanced to the gold medal game via an 88-25 win over Ecole Sainte Anne in the quarter-finals and a 91-51 victory over the hosts in the semis. Against ESA, CNHS led 50-15 at the half. Versus Bathurst, score at the half was 44-29.
