The hometown Carleton North High School AAA Northern Carleton Pharmacy Stars dropped a tough 57-53 decision to Presque Isle High School of Maine on Tuesday in exhibition boys varsity basketball in Florenceville-Bristol.

CNHS started off its successful series on the Nov. 21 weekend by winning the annual Grand Manan invitational.

They followed that up on Monday with a 99-71 victory over Oromocto High in Western Conference AAA exhibition play.

On Tuesday, also at home, they welcomed their friendly rivals from Presque Isle, Maine in a exhibition contest, with the Wildcats winning a highly-entertaining 57-53 decision.

Both teams played a great defensive game, but PIHS' six straight successful foul shots down the stretch proved to be the difference, as they out-scored CNHS in the last four minutes of the match.

Score at the half was 25-19 Presque Isle.

Richie Wilkins had 26 to lead the way for the winners, with 14 to Peter Reimer.

Wade Lawrence had 19 for CNHS, with 10 to Andrew McInnis.

In the victory over Oromocto, the hometowners led 59-36 at mid-time, as Lawrence led the charge for the victors with 18.

Kyle Fenske had 16 while Kyle Brymer added 13 for CNHS, who shot 58 per cent in the first to propel themselves to the win

In the tournament victory in Grand Manan, its second of the early season, CNHS defeated the hosts 75-69 in a spirited gold medal game.

Carleton North led 43-34 at the half, as Lawrence, who made the event's all-star squad, led the way with 20.

Tournament MVP Cedric McIntosh had 14, while Fenske notched 12.

Carleton North won both of its preliminary games to advance to the finals.

In its opener, CNHS dropped J.M.A. Armstrong 82-40 after building on a 48-21 halftime advantage.

Lawrence had 20 for the victors, while Cedric McIntosh added 16.

In its second contest, CNHS notched 44 points in the second half for a 94-50 win. Score at the half was 50-43.

Carleton North blew the game open in the fourth quarter with a 25-3 end-of-game run.

Lawrence had 20 for the winners, with 15 apiece to McInnis and McIntosh. Fenske also added 12.

CNHS' next big game on its 2008-099 head-to-head league schedule is a Dec. 2 road confrontation against regional rivals Woodstock High.

In other action on Tuesday at CNHS, the Carleton North High School Smith Drugs AAA varsity girls basketball team were dropped 71-68 by Presque Isle in exhibition play.

The visitors led 46-29 at the half, but only a late rally, and a missed three-pointer by CNHS with time running out, allowed PIHS the victory.

Sarah Parker and Kayla Lagassie each had 16 for the victors, with Tamara Tompkins (24 points), Bailey Trafford (16), and Riley McIntosh (9) leading the way for CNHS.
