NBJHL squad drops Blacks Harbour 5-2 at NCCC

The Western Valley Panthers scored duets in the first and second periods en route to a 5-2 home win on Saturday against Blacks Harbour in N.B. Junior Hockey League play at the Northern Carleton Civic Centre in Florenceville-Bristol.

Evan Peters opened the scoring at 5:20 of the first for the winners on a feed from Justin Canam.

The counter was followed up three minutes later by Evan Peters' marker, scored from the sticks of Canam and Chris Cole.

In the second, Jason Phippen, from Peters, at 16:27 notched WV's third of the game.

Canam then hit the twine some three minutes later for the Panthers' fourth of the game, which was scored unassisted, at 18:55.

In the third, Tyler Smart rounded out the scoring for the hometowners, as his unassisted goal came at 12:28 of the final frame.

Andrew Morgan had another strong start in the Panthers' cage, turning aside several key shots in the second and third periods to secure the win.

The Panthers also took time before the contest to announced the squad's captain, and his assistants, for the remainder of the 2008-09 season.

Canam will wear the ‘C', with Phippen, Cole, and Justin Scott as his ACs.

The Roar will be back in action on the Nov. 29 weekend with two contests.

On Saturday, Nov. 29 they welcome Kent Sud in a 7 p.m. game at the NCCC. On Sunday, Nov. 30 WV will have a return match against Blacks Harbour at the Fundy Arena, set for 3 p.m.
